Our group at the University of Luxembourg pursues a wide range of research interests within the realm of mesoscopic systems. With typical length scales of nanometers to micrometers, mesoscopic systems are already rather large compared to quantum systems like atoms and molecules. Nevertheless they can display a plethora of interesting quantum phenomena, such as interference effects and many-particle quantum dynamics. We use various analytical and numerical techniques to study such systems.
Our paper about Quantum Magnetic Skyrmion operators just appeared in Physical Review Letters. In this paper, we propose a variational ansatz for a creation operator of magnetic skyrmions, which captures both their (classical) magnetization profile as well as the quantum corrections (in particular the entanglement). This operator will facilitate further numerical studies of quantum properties of skyrmions.
